Kate was turned into JCCARE about 7 years ago now, when she was barely 6 months old. She had been a pet shop purchase and the young family were shocked to find out they had spent over $1000 on a Chin with knees so bad she needed surgery. They tried returning her to the pet shop or getting some assistance from them, but of course pet shops do not generally stand behind the dogs they sell. The poor family called JCCARE and we picked up Kate on a snowy day before Thanksgiving. We took Kate right over to Dr Onorati, who is Our Man of Leg Solutions. His answer: "Well, we could do her knees, yes, but her HIPS are the real problem here. She has Legge-Perthes disease. She may well lose the ability to walk before she is three years old." Given that information, JCCARE decided it best for Kate to stay with us and they would sponsor care for her legs and hips as needed. |
