Thank you for your interest in adopting a dog from JCCARE.
Please review the steps in our adoption process so we can begin helping you find a Japanese Chin to rescue. Depending on your needs and available dogs, the process can take as little as a few days or as long as several months. We are all volunteers, so your please be patient as we work through the adoption process with you. If for any reason you no longer wish to adopt, please let us know. JCCARE operates nationwide, our rescued Japanese Chin are currently living with their foster families in private homes, we do not have a facility such as a shelter to visit.
Step 1: Online Application
When completing your application, it is important you provide enough detail so we can determine qualities such as temperament and activity level in our rescues that will be a good match for you. Please let us know if you are interested in a particular dog, but also please keep in mind we want to match you with a dog that aligns with your needs, so it may be we have other dogs that would be a better fit for you. Our intake changes frequently, so it’s possible we have dogs that are not yet on our website. We may not currently have a dog you are interested in or one that meets your needs, but we do encourage applicants to complete the adoption application, so they are already approved as future dogs become available.
Step 2: Telephone contact
Phone numbers where we can readily reach you are essential when completing your application. One of our volunteers will be in touch with you within a few days after you submit your application.
Step 3: Arranging for a Home Visit
After we determine you meet our criteria for adopting one of our rescues, we will work with you to plan a home visit. The required home visit ensures our rescues go to healthy and safe environments, plus we want to be sure a potential rescue matches with your living style.
Step 4: Meeting Adoptable Dogs
Once your home visit is approved, it’s time for you and the dog to meet. Please be aware you may be one of several people who have expressed interest in a particular dog; it is always our goal to place our rescues with the adopter that is the best match for the dog, which is not necessarily the first person who applied to adopt the dog. The foster family will work with you to determine where the initial introduction will take place, with the primary goal being the fosters opportunity to assess how the dog gets along upon meeting the family and any other pets in the home. There are times the first introduction is a match for all concerned, and there are times it takes multiple attempts before an adopter is matched with a rescue.
Step 5: Finalizing the Adoption
The final step in the process is your adoption of one of JCCARE’s rescues. Adopting one of our rescues is a lifelong commitment, so we make every effort to make the best possible match between dogs and adopters. We will follow-up to see how everyone is doing but also ask that you maintain contact with us and to please not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns. All our adopters are given any veterinary records we have, along with the microchip information for their dog. Adoption fees are due prior to or at the time of adoption and must be paid in full, we do not take payments.
