In 1997 my wife and I got a chin puppy. I knew nothing of this breed then, but she wanted a lap dog. Myself not being that much of a pet person didn’t want a puppy, but we got him. When she brought him home he was so small he would fit in your hand. I fell in love with him right away. He was so much of a cuddlier. She would complain that he was her dog but he wanted to be with me most of the time. About 4 years later I lost my wife to illness. My chin became my roommate for another 6 and 1/2 years. He worked in the yard with me, in the garage; he even loved riding on the lawn mower. After he passed I was not going to get another dog, but after a few months I started looking on line and found JCCare. When I found they adopted out chins I decided I would look into it. I knew I couldn’t find one with the same exact traits as the first one but there is something about this breed that gets to you. I wanted another. I contacted them to find out if they had any in my area. I then met Susan who helped me through the adoption process and found Muppet for me. She called one day and asked if I would be interested in adopting a 5 1/2 yr old chin with no vision. I thought for a moment and decided that I had no problem with a blind dog. I wanted a chin and he needed a home. Perfect match. He was in Arizona with a very nice woman named Karen. Susan put me in contact with Karen and we spoke about Muppet and his needs, which were not much different than a dog with vision, so we proceeded with the adoption. With a lot of help from Karen and Susan, I picked Muppet up at Portland airport on July 4th. From the moment I saw him I knew was the one for me. We got along great, and that night at my home he curled up in my lap and within minutes he was snoring. I have had him for 2 1/2 years now and he still makes me smile every time I see him. At first I had concerns about his lack of sight, but he soon proved that I had nothing to worry about. He gets around just fine, He jumps on and off the furniture, when he wants outside he walks to the door and barks. Not much different than the first one. I can’t say enough about this breed. For not being a big fan of pets I can’t see myself without a chin. Thanks again to everyone at JCCare, especially Susan and Karen, for all the help in bringing Muppet to me. He has been a true gift.
